Elderly Driver Causes Damage by Crashing into Multiple Homes in Ocean County

At around 10:57 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024, Manchester Township Police arrived at Leisure Village West in response to a report of a car having crashed into three homes.

Officers found a 2017 Toyota Camry with significant front-end damage when they arrived. First responders on the scene had to remove the driver of the Toyota from the car.

According to the investigation, a female occupant of the house was present when the Toyota's driver backed into it. The woman was successfully rescued by responding officers from the damaged house.

After the initial impact, the Toyota's driver continued eastward and struck two additional homes at the same time.

It was found that Anne Broking, 84, of Manchester, New Jersey, the driver of the Toyota, was buckled up at the time of the collision. In order to treat her non-life-threatening injuries, Mrs. Broking was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey.

Theresa Mcweeney, an 88-year-old who was the pedestrian involved, was also taken to Community Medical Center for non-life-threatening medical care.

The Manchester Township Building Inspector, Priced Rite Towing, Jersey Central Power and Light, Manchester Township Volunteer Firefighters, Ridgeway Volunteer Firefighters, and Emergency Medical Technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services provided assistance at the scene.

Although the cause of this crash is still being investigated, incorrect backing seems to have been the main contributing factor. Ptl. Brendan Brush of the department's Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the collision.
