According to officials, a fire that began in the clothes dryer on Tuesday night rendered the Toms River home uninhabitable, forcing residents to flee their home.

According to Matthew Janora, chief inspector of the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention, the fire on Northstream Drive was reported at approximately 7:45 p.m. When firefighters came, the family had safely left. According to Janora, a number of dogs had been taken out of the house, but as of Wednesday, two cats were still missing.
According to Janora, no other injuries were reported, however one responder received on-site treatment for smoke inhalation.

The Toms River Building Department also responded to the scene and has deemed the structure unsafe for occupancy at this time. The incident is currently under investigation by the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention. Inspector Ryan LaVigne is the lead investigator, with assistance being provided by the Toms River Police Department. Initial findings suggest the fire to be accidental in nature.
