Fatal Hit-and-Run: NJ State Police Seek Community Assistance

According to the New Jersey State Police, they are seeking the public’s assistance with a fatal hit-and-run motor vehicle crash investigation on State Highway 55 South, milepost 39.2 in Franklin Township, Gloucester County.

Based on an investigation at the scene, on Sunday, September 8th, at approximately 3:53 p.m., a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling on the on-ramp from Route 40 eastbound to State Highway 55 southbound.

While traveling on the on-ramp near milepost 39.2, the motorcycle lost directional control, veered left, struck the curb, and entered the southbound lane of travel, where the rider was hit and ejected by an unknown vehicle.

An investigation at the scene revealed that the unknown vehicle had at least one set of tandem tires. As a result of the crash, William Baldwin, a 62-year-old male from Newfield, NJ, sustained fatal injuries.

The unknown vehicle left the scene of the crash prior to the trooper’s arrival.
