Former Toms River Officer Receives Sentence for Multiple Crimes
According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Rebecca Sayegh, 32, of Toms River, was given a three-year probationary sentence on January 16, 2026, in relation to her prior guilty plea to burglary, criminal mischief, and simple assault in relation to a sequence of events that took place in Berkeley Township on April 25, 2025.
Additionally, Judge Ryan ordered that Sayegh is to have no contact with the victims, as well as restitution for the damage she caused. Sayegh was also required to forfeit her position as a Toms River Township Police Officer effective November 17, 2025, and has forfeited all future public employment in the State of New Jersey. Sayegh pled guilty to all charges before Judge Ryan on November 17, 2025.
Officers from the
Berkeley Township Police Department arrived at a home on Evernhan Avenue at around 11:20 p.m. on April 25, 2025, in response to a report of a domestic disturbance.
Responding officers found that Sayegh, a Toms River Township police officer who was not on duty at the time, had broken through the front glass door and gone inside. Sayegh was also found to have damaged the hood of a victim's car that was parked in the driveway. Sayegh was found at the scene and arrested after refusing to be gently placed under arrest. Because to the New Jersey Bail Reform, she was released from the
Ocean County Jail.
