GameStop Announces Closure of Almost 300 Retail Locations

GameStop Announces Closure of Almost 300 Retail Locations

A once-popular mall mainstay is closing hundreds of stores at the beginning of 2026.

With almost 300 locations either closed or scheduled to close, GameStop began the new year with a frenzy of store closings.

26 stores in Pennsylvania and New Jersey alone have already shuttered or are scheduled to close in the near future.

The game shop intends to reduce its size, which coincides with the closures.
According to Fast Company, GameStop closed 590 shops in the United States during the most recent fiscal year.

In a December Securities and Exchange Commission filing, GameStop announced that it would close a "significant number of additional stores" during the 2025 fiscal year, which concludes on January 31, 2026.
