Off the Barnegat Peninsula in Ocean County, a nine-foot great white shark was recently spotted.
According to researchers, "Simon," as he was christened by shark tracking group
OCEARCH, was penned multiple times on April 30 off the coast near
Island Beach State Park.According to OCEARCH, the pings indicate that the 434-pound juvenile white shark actually breached the water's surface.
He pinged further north around Long Branch the following day, and as of Tuesday morning, according to
OCEARCH data, he was up in New York pretty close to Fire Island's coastline. Find out where he is
right now here.
Hali, a great white shark that pinged off the shore of Long Beach Island in April, is followed by Simon, a great white shark named after St. Simon's Island in Georgia, where he was initially discovered.
White sharks like Simon are being monitored by OCEARCH scientists as they migrate north for the summer.
