Head-On Collision in Ocean County Leaves Two Injured

According to Manchester Police Department, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at approximately 5:24pm officers from the Manchester Township Police Department were dispatched to the area of County Route 539 near mile marker 26.0 for the report of a two-car head on motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival officers observed a grey 2014 Chrysler 200 with extensive front driver side damage and a blue 2021 Chevrolet Spark with extensive front end damage on the grass shoulder of northbound CR 539. The driver of the Chrysler, identified as 62-year-old Troy Sullivan of Absecon, NJ was medevac to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ with severe injuries to the entirety of his body, where he is listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 54-year-old Wendy O’Neal of Hamilton, NJ was medevac to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ with severe injuries to both legs and upper body, where she is listed in stable condition.

The crash investigation revealed that the Chrysler was traveling southbound on County Route 539.

The Chevrolet was traveling northbound on County Route 539. The Chrysler crossed over the centerline of the roadway and impacted the Chevrolet with the driver side front of the vehicle.

After initial impact the Chrysler continued to travel southbound approximately one-hundred and fifty feet and came to final rest facing south in the northbound travel lane of County Route 539.

The Chevrolet after initial impact rotated approximately two-hundred and seventy degrees and came to final rest facing east on the northbound grass shoulder of County Route 539.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, but at this point, failure to maintain lane is the primary contributing factor. This crash is being investigated by Patrolman Conner Yatauro of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
