Heartbreaking Accident Claims Life of Jackson Teen Mikey Gioia

According to Jackson Police Department, a 16-year-old boy was killed Wednesday night after being struck head-on by a truck.

The crash happened when the truck was traveling east on East Veterans Highway and swerved into the westbound lane of the road in the area of Westlake Court according to reports.

Witnesses pulled the teen from the burning wreckage and tried to resuscitate him; 2 others were injured in the crash, authorities said.

The 16-year-old driver, a Jackson resident, was hit head-on and was transported to Monmouth Medical Center-Southern Campus in Lakewood where he succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.

It was not immediately clear what made the truck driver swerve into the opposite lane. The crash was still under investigation.

The victim was identified by a GoFundMe account that was started by a friend just hours after the collision and had earned over $20,300 raised as of 10:30 pm Thursday.
