Heartbreaking Loss: Baby Dies After Being Left in Car by Father
According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, on March 20, 2025, Moshe Ehrlich, 35, of Lakewood Township, was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child in connection with an incident that occurred in Lakewood on March 18, 2025.
At around 1:45 p.m. on March 18, 2025, Lakewood Township Police Department officers were called to the vicinity of 5th Street in response to a report of a distressed newborn inside a car.
Responding officers discovered Hatzolah Medical Services trying to provide a four-month-old boy with life-saving treatment. After being taken to the
Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, the kid was declared deceased.
A thorough investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, determined that the infant - Ehrlich’s son - was left alone in his vehicle for an extended period of time.
On March 20, 2025, Ehrlich surrendered himself to Lakewood Township Police Headquarters and was transported to the
Ocean County Jail, where he is currently lodged.
Billhimer said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, cooperated in the investigation.
