Heroic Act: Good Samaritan Saves Toddler on Route 9
According to Berkeley Township Police, the toddler who was saved on Tuesday from the middle of Route 9 wandered two blocks after leaving her house.
According to Capt. Peter LaRocca, Berkeley police received a report at approximately 10 a.m. regarding a youngster who was only wearing a pull-on diaper while walking Route 9. He added that when they got there, they discovered the youngster in
Diesel's Subs' parking lot with several kind people.
Traffic on the road near Morris Boulevard halted in both directions as a woman picked up the youngster and carried her out of harm's path, according to a witness who witnessed the rescue.
The witness claimed that after that, the woman brought the girl inside the NJ Transit bus shelter where she sat and tried to soothe her by massaging her back as they waited for the cops to show up.
According to the witness, a couple more women also stopped to provide assistance.
While police were chatting with the good Samaritans, the grandmother of the child—who had been aggressively searching for the toddler—arrived on the scene, according to LaRocca.
After escorting the grandmother and child back to the house, the officers discovered during their inquiry that the toddler had escaped through the door while the alarm was turned off, according to LaRocca.
Patrolman Kyle Slocum finished the investigative report and got in touch with the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
