The Lavallette Police Department has released video security evidence from an attempted auto theft and home invasion on Monday, May 9, 2022.
According to Lavallette Police Sgt. Justin D. Lamb, the incident occurred at 6:30 p.m. and resulted in a police chase that ended when the suspect's "getaway car" reached high speeds.
The address of the borough residence has not been revealed.
“A masked actor approached a resident's high-end vehicle to see if it was unlocked,” Lamb said. “Upon seeing it was locked, he appeared to give up as he ran back to his getaway car.”

The culprit gets into the getaway car after returning home, and the vehicle begins to pull away from the house before stopping and reversing back into the victim's driveway.
The person then emerges from the vehicle and approaches the residence.
"He then tried to get into the house through a side door that was locked." He next attempted to enter through the front door, which was similarly locked, according to Lamb.
"I advise all Lavallette residents to keep their vehicles and homes locked and report any and all unusual activities," he stated.
