Authorities claim that a hunter used birdshot pellets to shoot a man and his dog on Monday, leading to charges.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Fish & Wildlife Conservation Police charged Michael Griffis, 47, of Hamilton, with using a firearm carelessly and causing property damage.

The shooting took place in Hunterdon County's Kingwood Township on Monday.

The birdshot pellets struck Gerald Quarino, 70, of Columbus, Burlington County, in the thigh; his injuries were not life-threatening.

Pellets also struck Quarino's dog.
