Anthony Somma peacefully passed away on September 15th at Cooper University Medical Center with his family by his side after a five year battle against Ewing Sarcoma. Anthony was born on December 31, 1994 in Brick, NJ. His New Year’s Eve birthday fit his personality. He was born an entertainer and lit up every room he entered.
He graduated from Toms River High School East in 2014. He went on to study Radio, Film, and Broadcasting at Rowan University. His diagnosis prevented him from finishing school at Rowan.
Once in remission in 2017, Anthony attended Troy University’s online school for a degree in social work, with a specialty in oncology. He wanted to help people who were fighting like he was.
Anthony spent his free time watching and rooting for his favorite sports teams and attending Broadway shows. Anthony’s love and knowledge of sports and the arts was beyond impressive. His love of musical theater began when he was casted in the 5th grade school play when he was only 6 years old. He went on to perform in several other shows, but was most known for his leading role as Usnavi in In the Heights his Junior year.
Anthony is survived by his mother, Annmarie Somma; his brother, Joe Somma; His sister, Angela Lenkiewicz; his brother-in-law, Brian Lenkiewicz; his step-neice and nephew, Brayden and Peyton Lenkiewicz; his godson and nephew, Austin Lenkiewicz; and his goddaugther, Adelina. Anthony was blessed with a large and loving family and will be missed dearly by all his loved ones
