In Memory of Julie Johnson, of Toms River

Toms River East Little League community is mourning the loss of one of our own - Julie Johnson. She is the wife of long-time coach Doug Johnson and is the mother of Mikey and Amelia Johnson. Julie passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025, after a brief battle with breast cancer.

Julie Marie Johnson (nee Phelan)

Julie Johnson a beautiful, charismatic, charming, full of life women suddenly past away on May 7, 2025. She was born on April 1, 1982 at Mountainside Hospital, Montclair NJ. 

Julie attended Our Lady of Lourdes school and graduated from West Orange High School class of 2000. She then went on to receive an associates degree in Graphic Design. 

Julie worked for the West Orange Recreation department and took a full-time position for the engineering department. Julie also worked at the legendary famous Carvel in West Orange. There are so many great memories made at this store. The fondest memory is meeting and working with the love of her life Doug. Eventually getting married on her favorite day of the year St. Patrick's Day in 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Julie moved to Bloomfield, NJ, and then settling in Toms River, NJ. 

In September 2013, Michael Edwin, was born to follow was Amelia Joy in November 2017. Being a mother was Julie's calling, Julie became a stay at home Mom. She was a devoted, caring mother, making everything magical, fun, and full of life for her kids. she had the perfect family, as her father's favorite saying was "Life was good." She enjoyed taking pictures of every moment, sharing them with the world. She truly loved her children and being a mother. She loved being an Aunt JuJu to her nieces, making sure the girls had matching outfits, there was always a theme. 

When the children got older and Amelia started school, Julie missed being around her kids, so she went back to work, becoming a Cafeteria Aide at East Dover Elementary school, where she was able to become a mother to so many kids. She truly loved everyone of those kids, There was so many stories told about so many of them. It was such a site to see, when one of the kids would see her outside of school and run up to her to give her hug, it truly lit up her world. 

Julie was a devoted wife to her husband Doug for 13 fabulous years. She is predeceased by her Father Michael, and Father in law EJ. She is survived by her husband Doug, her son Michael (11), and her daughter Amelia (7), her mother Mary Phelan (nee- Wannamecher) and sister Suzanne, mother in law Ellen Johnson (nee-Vanderhoof), in laws Edwin and Elieen Johnson, Phillip and Dana Johnson, and many nieces and cousins. 

In order to honor Julies favorite holiday and to celebrate her life the family wishes is for everyone planning to attend any services is to treat her services like you are attending the Famous West Orange St. Patricks Day Parade. Whether it's Irish sweater, hat, green shirt, or even a green tie. There was nothing better than Julie loved but having her family in matching theme outfits.
