Investigation Reveals 91-Year-Old Brick Man
as Hit-and-Run Driver
A 91-year-old Brick man has been charged by the authorities in relation to a hit-and-run incident that occurred in Wall last month that wounded a landscaper after his riding mower was hit along a busy route.
The crash happened on Ocean Road on December 8 at approximately 11 a.m., according to
Wall Township Police. A passing car driven by
John Snyder struck a 34-year-old landscaper running a riding mower equipped with a tan leaf collection box, knocking him off the machine and onto the ground.
The landscaper was taken by emergency personnel to a local hospital, where he received treatment for a concussion and other minor injuries, according to authorities.
The car in question, according to investigators, briefly slowed down before continuing west. In the days after the collision, police made camera footage and public notifications available to assist identify the driver. The impact and the car's departure from the scene were captured on camera.
Subsequent inquiry revealed the vehicle's path through Wall's Allenwood neighborhood and into the nearby townships of Brick and Howell. Eventually, police found a gray 2023 Subaru Crosstrek in Brick that fit the description and had incident-related damage.
When returning home from an appointment,
Snyder cooperated and informed the police that he thought he had hit a "tan garbage can" on the side of the road.
Before the repairs were finished, an auto body shop that later fixed the car reported discovering debris stuck in the grille, according to the police.
Snyder received five motor vehicle summonses, including one for reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
