On Long Beach Island, a seafood market that has been around for 76 years is shutting and selling its property.

According to the company's Facebook site, Surf City Fishery has been in operation since 1949, when fish were brought to shore by wooden fishing boats known as pound boats. In Ship Bottom, the second-generation fresh seafood store is well-known.

It is located approximately one block from the ocean on an acre of property with 195 feet of frontage on Long ocean Boulevard.

As stated by listing agent David Bonanni of Bonanni Realtors, "it's really the most prime developable lot on Long Beach Island."

According to Bonanni, the two brothers who own the company are prepared to retire, thus it is for sale for $6.9 million.

Developers are showing "very good" interest in the central site, considering it for both residential and commercial development.

"A big franchise, a possible pharmacy," he stated. It is contingent upon the specific purpose for which it is intended. On that website, you might find one or two uses.

Only one McDonald's would fit if there were any. "You might get two if it were a Shake Shack, Chipotle, or Chick-fil-A," the listing agent stated.

For any renovation of the site, the buyer would need to obtain approval from Ship Bottom's zoning and planning boards.

Unlike other surrounding retail locations, the property has a parking lot, which makes it unusual. And it's on the major road that leads to and from the island, just off the causeway and bridge.
