Jersey Shore Disappearance: Still Unsolved
On June 25, 2009, Julia Madsen went for a walk in Berkeley Township's South Seaside Park. Since then, no one has seen her.
Julia Madsen said to her husband Ed that she was going for a walk on the beach on June 25, 2009. As he watched the New York Yankees game, she gave him a kiss and left the small yellow brick beach house on a dead end street in South Seaside Park through the door.
Her relatives didn't see her again.
Julia's family and police enforcement are still looking for her fifteen years later, as well as answers regarding what transpired when she left the house that warm Thursday evening at around seven o'clock in the evening.
Detective Joseph Santoro of Berkeley Township Police stated, "She just vanished into thin air," on Tuesday during a family and law enforcement meeting intended to draw attention to the unsolved case. Since June 25, 2009, at approximately 8:40 p.m., when Ed Madsen contacted the police to report Julia missing, Santoro has been involved in the case.
Capt. Justin Blackwell of the New Jersey State Police, who oversees the department's criminal investigations division, said, "This is a case no one's forgetting." Blackwell has been a part of the investigation from the start as well.
At the time of her disappearance, Julia Madsen, 72, was spotted sporting sneakers, a pink shirt, white capris, and a gold and silver bracelet on one wrist in addition to a silver watch on the other. According to the entry in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons database, she was also wearing her wedding ring and engagement ring made of diamonds. Her family stated that although she was in the early stages of Alzheimer's, she had not shown any signs that would have suggested she need round-the-clock care.
The Madsens had recently celebrated their fiftieth anniversary, and that weekend Julia vanished. The extended family was supposed to meet up in South Seaside Park for a two-week vacation and celebration.
The public is still being asked for assistance by police and Julia's family members in order to put an end to the painful and perplexing loss.
"Many people at the Shore this time of year are from out of state, but come back to vacation the same time every year," Santoro stated. "Those are the people we are also trying to reach."
