Labor Day Weekend: Storm Threat Looms Over NJ
Labor Day is this weekend, marking the unofficial end of summer, but the weather for the sendoff might not be perfect, based on the most recent forecast.
The
National Weather Service said that while "some" isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms could occur this weekend, "nothing of widespread significance is anticipated."
Widespread showers and thunderstorms are predicted for later Saturday into Saturday night, although the extent will depend on when an oncoming cold front moves through, according to forecasters.
Forecasters at
AccuWeather stated in its forecast for the holiday weekend that "the showers and thunderstorms in the East will be most widespread and intense in the afternoon and evening, although there may be some exceptions."
On Sunday, there's a chance for some places to dry off while others can get more rain. What matters is how quickly the front moves, according to AccuWeather analysts.
Lead long-range meteorologist Paul Pastelok of AccuWeather said, "It is possible there is another big flash flood event somewhere in the East as the front slows its forward speed from Saturday to Sunday."
Sunday's beaches in South Jersey might see powerful storms and rainy showers, according to
AccuWeather analysts.
The National Weather Service reports that Labor Day itself will be "dry and comfortable," which is fantastic news. There will be moderate humidity levels and temperatures that are either slightly below or about average.
