Latest Snowfall Predictions for New Jersey's Incoming Winter Storm

Snow accumulation projections have reduced with a Monday afternoon update by the National Weather Service, however the potential of freezing rain has increased.

The National Weather Service predicts a difficult Tuesday morning commute due to the first significant snowfall of the season. Sussex County's warning was downgraded and now joins Warren, Morris, Hunterdon and western Passaic counties under a Winter Storm Advisory.
Three to 6 inches of snow are projected for Sussex County; the other effected counties are likely to get 1 to 2 inches of snow, transitioning into rain by lunchtime, according to the National Weather Service. This could result in a light layer of ice and make for slippery road conditions.

There will be a few flakes throughout the remainder of the state, which will soon turn into rain. Weather-related consequences here are not foreseen.

The areas under a Winter Storm Advisory are "most likely to endure a problematic Tuesday morning commute," the National Weather Service said. Even a tiny amount of snow might have significant effects because it is the first widespread snowfall of the season and will fall during Tuesday morning rush hour.

Through Tuesday night, the weather will dry up. However, lows Tuesday night will be in the 20s for most, so there could be some black ice where mushy snow melts and refreezes.
Forecasters predicted that temperatures will stay extremely cold for the remainder of the week. More snow showers are in store for North Jersey Thursday into Thursday night when a cold front passes.

There could be another winter storm by Friday. However, it's too early for any details to be nailed down. Here the latest forecast.
