Weather Update; Prepare for Memorial Day Weekend
For anyone in the Garden State planning to travel over the extended Memorial Day weekend, there is good news: experts predict significantly less rain in the coming days.
The
National Weather Service Mount Holly station predicts a "quiet rest of the weekend" with "highs warming into the low to mid 80s," despite the possibility of thunderstorms and showers for early Memorial Day weekend visitors in Central and South Jersey on Friday morning.
The weather service reported that Friday's forecast is for low-80s temperatures with a moderate (40 to 50%) risk of rain and thunderstorms south of Trenton.
On Saturday, the temperature will rise to the mid-eighties with largely cloudy skies and 5 mph breezes; on Sunday, the weather will be more like summer with partly cloudy skies and light winds.
Monday is still expected to have a risk of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, with some storms capable of bringing heavy rainfall, the National Weather Service warned, despite the forecast for a dry weekend.
AccuWeather reported that in addition to localized severe wind gusts between 55 and 65 mph, there is a chance of travel delays, flooding, downpours, and hail.
The weather service stated that although lingering showers are still likely Tuesday into Wednesday, the thunderstorms are predicted to last through Monday night.
