Authorities are still looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in Toms River's Roberts Mobile Home Park on Thursday.
According to
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, a man's body was discovered in the mobile home after the fire was extinguished. According to the prosecutor, the body was taken to Community Medical Center for a postmortem examination to determine how the man died and his identity.
The fire was discovered around 3 p.m. on Thursday. The caller told police that they attempted to notify the homeowner of the fire because the caller believed the homeowner was still inside the house, according to police.
When Toms River police arrived, they attempted to enter the house to look for the homeowner, but it was completely engulfed, and the heavy smoke and intense flames drove them back, according to police.
According to the prosecutor's office, a firefighter was treated and released from Community Medical Center after suffering a minor injury while fighting the fire.
According to Billhimer, the origin and cause of the fire are still being investigated.
