On July 19, the 2026 World Cup championship match will take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

FIFA announced on Sunday at a Miami television studio that Mexico City's Estadio Azteca will host the 39-day competition's opening on June 11.

According to a press release, with three host countries, sixteen host cities, 48 teams, and 104 matches across a continent, FIFA World Cup 26TM promises to be the biggest athletic event.

It will also feature a revolutionary new tournament system. FIFA World Cup 26TM will be the most inclusive tournament ever, involving billions of viewers globally and millions of supporters in person at 16 distinctive stadiums. It will feature more countries, cities, teams, and games than ever before.

The competition will last an amazing 39 days, starting on June 11, 2026, with the first match. The Final at New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium) on July 19, 2026, will mark the event's culmination. Unprecedented fan experiences will also take place throughout the NYNJ region. MetLife Stadium, located in New York, New Jersey, will host eight matches throughout the tournament.
