Booster Shots Now Available
The OCHD will now offer all three of the COVID-19 boosters - including the Pfizer vaccine- at all clinic locations throughout the County.
At each of its COVID-19 vaccination clinics throughout the county, the Ocean County Health Department (OCHD) is now offering the Moderna and J&J COVID-19 vaccine boosters to eligible individuals beginning today, October 25, 2021.
The FDA recently granted each of these vaccinations emergency use authorization (EAU), and they will now be available alongside the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine booster.
"We knew this news was coming in some form a few weeks ago," said Daniel Regenye, OCHD Public Health Coordinator/Health Officer, "so we've been prepared to offer all three boosters to Ocean County residents at our COVID-19 and seasonal flu clinics." "We encourage eligible residents to receive their boosters, especially since the holidays are approaching."

Individuals who had a Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccination and are six months or more after their original series are eligible for a booster shot, according to the CDC:
65 years old and up
Residents in long-term care facilities aged 18 and up
Those who are 18 years old or older and have underlying medical issues
People above the age of 18 who work or reside in high-risk environments
Everyone over the age of 18 who had a first Johnson & Johnson dose should take a booster dose at least two months after finishing the single-dose initial regimen, according to the authorization.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), eligible persons can choose which vaccination they get as a booster dose. Some people prefer the vaccination type they had when they were first immunized, while others prefer to obtain a different booster. This form of mix-and-match dose for booster shots is now allowed per the CDC's recommendations.
The OCHD is continuing its efforts to vaccinate as many individuals as possible, particularly children aged 12 to 17. Those who have not yet received their first vaccination are highly encouraged to do so as soon as possible.
"We're also looking ahead and expect more news from the CDC on a COVID-19 vaccine for children," Regenye said, adding that "we'll keep everyone informed as we learn more." Meanwhile, the health service recommends that all children aged 6 months and up, as well as adults, obtain their seasonal flu vaccine. The immunizations are a safe and effective way to protect you, your family, and our Ocean County communities."
The OCHD is requesting that residents bring their vaccination records with them when they come to receive their shot. For a schedule of upcoming clinics or to schedule a COVID-19 appointment, visit Ocean County Health Department.
