Seaside Heights Man is Being Charged with Murder
Gerardo Ruiz, 50, of Seaside Heights, was charged with murdering a woman who was discovered dead Saturday morning in a Seaside Heights motel. Ruiz was found overdosed at a nearby motel, authorities said.
The man, survived the overdose and was charged with the murder of Alecia Perreault, 29, also of Seaside Heights, according to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Seaside Heights Police received a call from a person at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning claiming that Ruiz killed a woman at the Offshore Motel in the borough and that Ruiz was staying a block away at the Surfside Motel, the office said.
When officers arrived at the Offshore Motel, they found the body of Perreault with wounds on her neck and she was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Ruiz was found a short time later at his room at the Surfside Motel.
Ruiz was in the protective custody of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department at a local medical facility and was listed Monday evening in serious, but stable condition, the office said.
An investigation revealed that Ruiz was responsible for Perreault’s death, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
“The Ocean County Medical Examiner has preliminarily determined this to be a homicide but the cause and manner are currently pending further testing,” Billhimer said in a statement.
