Toms River Regional School District Issued Alert
On Friday, a nationwide "challenge" on the social media app Tik Tok warned of the possibility of school violence, prompting a Toms River Regional School District alert stating that there is no threat locally.
The challenge is a generic threat, according to the email issued to parents, employees, and students on Thursday afternoon. The state Department of Education's Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning informed the district to it.
According to the email, no specific threat has been made toward any Toms River School, but they are in communication with the Toms River Police Department, as well as the police departments of Beachwood and Pine Beach.
At this time, this is not a credible threat.
Tomorrow, however, you may notice an increase in police presence and communication.
"Please know that, while this particular social media warning is general and deemed untrustworthy," the statement read, "we will continue to constantly monitor any and every situation in the interest of safety and security."
According to the email, the district will release timely notification if more information is provided.
As a result of the challenge, schools across the state and country have issued similar statements.
