There is now a crosswalk and a new light to allow people to cross Hooper Avenue between the county courthouse and the administrative buildings of Ocean County safely.

In an effort to make the area safer for drivers and pedestrians alike, as well as to facilitate the construction of the new addition to the Ocean County Justice Complex, a crosswalk and signal were installed next to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

A Jersey barrier has also been installed in the middle of Hooper Avenue, from Washington Street to Madison Avenue, in addition to the crosswalk and signal.

In order to notify drivers of a crosswalk designated for pedestrians, a new traffic signal has been constructed near 119 Hooper Avenue. By pressing a button on the sidewalk, pedestrians can alter the signal. With instructions, signage has been installed.

The pedestrian bridge over Hooper Avenue that links the Ocean County parking garage to the judicial complex has closed, according to officials, with the installation of the new Hooper Avenue crossing.

Additionally, there are marked crosswalks on Hooper Avenue at Madison Avenue and Hooper Avenue, as well as at the intersection of Washington Street and Hooper Avenue.

From Washington Street to Madison Avenue, Hooper Avenue has been reduced to one lane in each direction, with the lanes closest to the sidewalks blocked off from automobile traffic. The speed limit has been raised to 25 mph.

The 101 Hooper Avenue entrance to the Ocean County Administration Complex is currently restricted to vehicles due to construction. Washington Street and Hadley Avenue are the entrances to the county parking garage.

A portion of these modifications will stay in place until the justice complex's annex is finished.

"We urge everyone working or visiting the downtown area to adhere to these changes," Kelly stated. "Safety is of the utmost importance and we need everyone to be vigilant of the changes."
