A strong winter storm is predicted to dump up to 12 to 18 inches of snow on some parts of the state this weekend.

The National Weather Service's prediction office in Mount Holly stated that "widespread snowfall amounts ranging from 8-18 inches are likely." "More wintry mix is likely to be found closer to the coast and farther south, where there will be less snowfall. Further north, there will be more snowfall.

In some areas of southern New Jersey, the storm may also bring a hazardous layer of ice and a wintry mix.

The meteorological service stated that "a light glaze to 0.10 inches of ice is possible, especially near and southeast of I-95."

The whole Garden State is expected to receive 6 to 12 inches of snow, according to AccuWeather forecasters.

Forecasters stated that the storm has been difficult to forecast because it comprises multiple energy components that must come together. The first component is a storm system that recently formed close to the California coast earlier today.

After passing across the southern and central United States, that system is predicted to combine with another, then evolve off the Atlantic coast to become the massive snowstorm that will affect New Jersey beginning late Saturday night.
South Jersey is predicted to get the most snowfall on Sunday morning, while northern New Jersey is predicted to see the most snowfall on Sunday midday, afternoon, and evening before ending on Sunday night. Some light snow showers or flurries might continue throughout Monday morning, according to forecasters.

Several forecasts are recommending New Jersey drivers to alter their weekend plans and to avoid the roads on Sunday, even if the storm's exact date is still unknown.
Ahead of the weekend storm, all 21 Garden State counties are under a winter storm watch.

Additionally, due to the possibility of dangerously low wind chills between zero and ten degrees below zero, cold weather alerts have been issued throughout the whole state for Friday night through Saturday morning.

According to forecasters, those who are outside without thick layers of clothing would be more vulnerable to frostbite and hypothermia.

After the snowstorm over the weekend, the extremely cold temperatures will probably persist.

According to the meteorological service, "a prolonged period of well-below-normal temperatures is expected to continue through next week, with wind chills in the single digits to below zero at night each night." Check your local forecast.
