New Jersey Braces for Impact: Storm Timing and Expectations
According to the most recent forecast, a strong storm system is expected to arrive into New Jersey on Wednesday night, bringing with it the possibility of 50 mph wind gusts, 3 inches of rain, and coastal flooding shortly before Halloween.
Although it will still be a very windy Halloween, the good news is that things should dry out in time for trick-or-treating on Friday, according to
National Weather Service forecasters. Some towns in the Toms River region will be trick-or-treating on
November 1 instead of October 30, because their well-known Halloween parade takes place on October 31.
The
National Weather Service stated Wednesday morning that "the storm is expected to bring a round of widespread moderate to heavy rainfall on Thursday along with potential for strong easterly winds gusting 40 to 50 mph." "An isolated severe thunderstorm with damaging winds cannot be ruled out."
It begins after midnight on Wednesday, and on Thursday, there will be brief but intense intervals of light rain. Rainfall is predicted to be between one and two inches overall, with the possibility of three inches locally.
Although there may be some small coastal flooding, the rain will generally be beneficial. There may also be a rumble of thunder.
Power outages could be caused by strong winds that topple trees. The National Weather Service may issue a Wind Advisory because the greatest winds are predicted close to the coast.
According to the National Weather Service, winds will lessen and the weather will dry up by Thursday night.
Friday will still be windy and brisk, with potential gusts of up to 50 mph. There may be another wind advisory.
Throughout the weekend, the weather will remain unusually cold. Check the local
forecast.
