New Jersey Braces for Severe Weather: Thunderstorms and Tornadoes
According to the National Weather Service, there could be severe thunderstorms on Friday. At least some of the region may experience an organized thunderstorm system from Friday morning until early afternoon. There may be a few more storms throughout the evening. Be mindful of the weather. According to the most recent severe weather projection from the national Storm Prediction Center, there is also a very slim probability of an isolated tornado in far southern New Jersey.
There is also a tiny chance that severe thunderstorms with high wind gusts will affect the southern half of New Jersey on Friday, while the northern half is at a marginal risk.
Forecasters utilize a 5-level threat scale, with marginal being the lowest and slight being the second lowest.
The southern parts of Cape May, Cumberland, and Salem counties, as well as any portion of Delaware, have a 2% to 4% chance of experiencing an isolated tornado on Friday, according to the
Storm Prediction Center.According to the weather service, there is a 40% probability of showers and thunderstorms on Friday night and a 50% chance on Friday morning and afternoon.
It is predicted that afternoon temperatures will reach the upper 70s, and in certain regions of the state, they may even reach the low 80s.
When a cold front moves in on Saturday, further rounds of showers and thunderstorms will form, some of which could turn severe with hail and damaging wind gusts, according to forecasters.
Forecasters are monitoring the possibility of a coastal storm in the middle of next week, despite the fact that it will begin dry. New Jersey may get even more drenching rainfall if that storm does form.
