New Jersey Crash Results in Death of Elderly Driver Aged 99
A 99-year-old man from Manchester died in a two-vehicle collision in the borough, according to police.
On February 4, just before 10:45 a.m.,
Harry Paulson was operating a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis when he pulled out of a Sunoco gas station at
200 Route 37 close to Brown Avenue and struck a 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck, according to the police.
According to police, the truck, driven by South Toms River resident Vito Petro, 78, was traveling east on Route 37 at the time of the collision.
The Grand Marquis veered off the road and ended up close to the wooded area off the highway's eastbound lane as a result of the collision.
Petro was transported to the
Community Medical Center in Toms River after sustaining minor wounds. Paulson was taken by ambulance to
Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. According to the police, he died there from his wounds.
According to police, Paulson did not yield to oncoming traffic when leaving the Sunoco gas station, according to the results of an initial investigation.
Police said in a statement that "the investigation into the crash is still ongoing, but at this point, failure to stop or yield is the primary contributing factor."
Both cars had significant damage. During the investigation, the highway was closed for an hour on both sides.
