New Jersey Overnight Snow: Accumulation and Timing Updates
With a Canadian storm bringing heavy winds that might cause snow squalls and hazardous conditions, New Jersey will see its first widespread snowfall of the winter season on Wednesday night and Thursday night.
"Bringing some rain and snow showers, strong winds, and continued below normal temperatures," the
National Weather Service said as the storm moved in Wednesday night.
There will be a lot of snow in North Jersey, more rain and snow in the south, and simply rain around the coast.
Most of the Garden State will only see a thin dusting of accumulations. However, the higher mountains in the northwest region of the state could receive an inch or two of snow.
The conditions might make for a hazardous and slick travel on Thursday morning, which is the actual concern.
All of New Jersey is under a wind advisory Thursday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with severe westerly winds of 20 to 35 mph and gusts of up to 55 mph, according to
National Weather Service forecasts.
Roads may become slick due to these high gusts and snow showers, which are mostly in North Jersey. This is also where snow squalls, which reduce visibility, could originate.
Now is the perfect moment to secure any loose outside items, such as garbage cans or holiday decorations.
Forecasters caution that this could result in isolated power outages and tree damage.
Additionally,
AccuWeather experts warn that the powerful Arctic winds may create aircraft delays.
