New Jersey Polling Places Close Due to Bomb Threats

Bomb threats at many polling places in New Jersey have caused closures and relocations today. According to Attorney General Matthew Platkin, police protected every polling station in seven New Jersey counties after responding to threats via email.

He claims that while some of these polling places have already reopened to the public, voters at other sites have been told to cast their ballots at a nearby polling place. "We will keep working nonstop to ensure a free, fair, and secure election, and voters should continue to feel confident that they may cast their ballots without fear of intimidation.

Make no mistake: We will not put up with any attempts to tamper with our elections, and we will promptly prosecute anyone who tries to compromise the security or safety of our democratic process.
Threats have been sent via email to the following locations:

  • Bergen County
  • Essex County
  • Mercer County
  • Middlesex County
  • Monmouth County
  • Ocean County
  • Passaic County

  • According to News12NJ, voting locations at Paterson's Schools 2 and 10 were closed due to threats.

While acknowledging that the threat on Gotthard Street this morning was unsubstantiated, Newark Public Safety officials say they are investigating phishing emails containing bogus bomb threats.

Just before six in the morning, a high school employee reported a safety threat via email, according to Hackensack police. This led to a K9 sweep that cleared the area and permitted polling to resume at seven thirty-three in the morning.

Voting has resumed at 1740 Main Street after Lake Como Borough Hall was momentarily shuttered this morning, forcing the polling place to be moved to Belmar Court.

Two polling places received bomb threats Tuesday morning, according to Fair Lawn Police, but both facilities were evacuated after searches yielded no evidence.

Voters were diverted to Linwood School, according to North Brunswick police, who responded to activities at Livingston Park School.

Although specifics are still being gathered, Passaic Mayor Hector Lora verified fresh threats in his city.
Polling places at Paterson's Schools 2 and 10 were closed in response to threats, according to Mayor Andre Sayegh. Although they are looking into phishing emails that contain fictitious bomb threats, Newark Public Safety officers have established that the threat on Gotthard Street this morning was baseless.

According to Hackensack police, a K9 sweep cleared the area after a high school staffer emailed about a safety concern shortly before 6 a.m., allowing polls to reopen at 7:33 a.m.
