New Jersey Schools Adjust Schedules Amid Winter Weather Alerts

Tuesday afternoon marks the arrival of the first round of winter weather in South Jersey, and residents are braced for up to 8 inches of snow.

The National Weather Service predicts that 6 to 8 inches of snow will fall in Cape May County by 4 p.m. in South Jersey. In the afternoon and evening, snow will move north across the Garden State, with snowfall totals decreasing as one moves further north.
6-8 INCHES EXPECTED IN NJ
From 4 p.m. on Tuesday through 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Cumberland, Cape May, and Atlantic counties are under a Winter Storm Warning. During that time, Salem, Gloucester, Camden, Monmouth, Mercer, Ocean, and Burlington counties will all be under a Winter Weather Advisory.

There could be 4–6 inches of snow in most of South Jersey, 2–5 inches in Central Jersey, and up north, with up to 2 inches of dusting. But there's always a chance of higher amounts locally, particularly in South Jersey, where snowfall rates can occasionally get heavy, according to the National Weather Service.
Additionally, school districts started announcing Wednesday's postponed openings and the cancellation of after-school programs as early as Tuesday afternoon. Check for Closings and Delays in your area.

An additional 1 to 2 inches of snow could be dumped by a second storm on Wednesday night, but it will mostly affect North Jersey rather than the area that was hit on Tuesday.

A messy Wednesday night commute is likely as this snow turns into a wintry mix or freezing rain, which could cause ice accretion. There will be nothing but rain further south.
