New Jersey Teen Shot: 12-Year-Old Charged with Manslaughter
According to Camden County Police Department, two minors have been charged in connection with the shooting death of a teenager in Camden.
Authorities announced Tuesday that a 12-year-old girl in Camden was charged with manslaughter after she unintentionally shot and killed a teenage male last month. In the case, another teenager was also charged.
According to authorities,
Xyere Brooks, 16, of Camden, was shot inside a house on June 6. About two hours later, the hospital declared him deceased.
Investigations were underway on the shooting's circumstances.
Authorities discovered that the gun was carried into the house on the 1500 block of Thorn Street by another 16-year-old Camden teen. Brooks was shot when the girl"recklessly" fired the gun while she was handling it, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
On Tuesday, the two minors turned themselves in at the prosecutor's office.
The girl, who lives in Wilmington, Delaware, was charged with second-degree manslaughter. Both teens were charged with second-degree unlawful weapon possesion.
Since they are both juveniles, their names have been kept anonymous. Both were given conditional releases by the court. Their next court date is July 23. Prosecutors stated that no more details will be made public at this time.
