New Jersey Winter Storm Approaching: Snow and Icy Conditions
New Jersey is anticipating a winter storm for the fourth time in nine days. The storm is predicted to bring a sloppy mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, which could turn some sidewalks and streets into hazardous ice skating rinks according to the National Weather Service. The storm is expected to move quickly as it moves in from the Ohio Valley, according to forecasters. However, its effects will be far-reaching.
According to the
National Weather Service, 5 to 7 inches of snow are predicted to fall in some areas of northern New Jersey, with some areas possibly receiving up to 8 inches.
Warmer air entering the storm will convert the snow to sleet and then freezing rain, even though much less snow is expected in the state's central and southern regions.
According to forecasters, untreated roads, bridges, sidewalks, and parking lots may accumulate up to a tenth of an inch of ice, posing a risk to pedestrians and drivers.
In the majority of central and western New Jersey, previous forecasts that called for up to a quarter-inch of ice have been retracted. On untreated roads, however, vehicles can slide out of control by just a tenth of an inch.
