Forecasters are keeping an eye on how Lee, a tropical storm at the moment, will strike the East Coast and the Jersey Shore as another potential Category 4 hurricane is expected to affect Florida.
Daniel Brown, senior hurricane specialist and warning coordination meteorologist for the
National Hurricane Center, stated on Thursday that Tropical Storm Lee is now close to hurricane strength with 70 mph maximum sustained winds and higher gusts, and "is likely to rapidly intensify into an extremely dangerous major hurricane by Saturday." Lee will become a category 1 hurricane whenever its sustained winds hit 74 mph.
According to AccuWeather experts, Lee could become a Category 4 storm before moving close to the Caribbean islands and eventually reaching the US. Along the East Coast, a considerable risk of hazardous rip currents is anticipated.
As the storm approaches the Eastern Seaboard, beach hazards may become a concern. Dangerous rip currents, heavy surf, and high seas may affect the Jersey Shore.
