NJ Braces for Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall This Weekend
A period of dry weather is anticipated to conclude this weekend, as New Jersey braces for severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, as indicated by the most recent forecast.
According to the
National Weather Service, "Sunday will be notably warm and humid, particularly for mid-March." Temperatures are expected to range from the upper 60s to the low 70s. Additionally, it will be a breezy day, with wind speeds increasing to between 20 and 30 mph, accompanied by gusts reaching 35 to 45 mph, as reported by meteorologists.
As the day progresses, showers are expected to arrive, with the National Weather Service forecasting up to 1.5 inches of rainfall.
There is also a possibility of a few severe thunderstorms. Given that the state is currently facing drought conditions, this rainfall is essential and is not anticipated to result in widespread flash flooding; however, localized street flooding may occur on Sunday night.
AccuWeather meteorologists have indicated that the series of rainstorms is expected to result in travel disruptions in the metropolitan regions of Philadelphia and New York City.
They noted that the recent absence of rainfall has contributed to drought conditions and an increase in wildfires; thus, the forthcoming rain will provide much-needed relief.
Dry weather is anticipated to persist until Sunday, accompanied by rising temperatures.
