NJ Drivers Beware: Expect Icy Conditions on Roads This Thursday
A layer of snow and rain showers are predicted for Wednesday night, which might result in icy roads and hazardous driving conditions on Thursday morning.
The
National Weather Service warned early on Wednesday that "rapidly falling temperatures behind a cold front may result in icy roads and hazardous travel for the Thursday morning commute."
Most of the state will have rain on Wednesday afternoon and evening due to a storm, while northern areas will see snow on Thursday morning.
In northern New Jersey, snowfall will be restricted to a dusting to a half-inch, but by early Thursday, any damp surfaces may become ice.
The weather service warned that "anything that does not dry out has the potential to result in roadways and bridges becoming icy for the Thursday morning commute." "This risk is higher, particularly in areas where snow accumulates."
The strongest rain is predicted north and west of the Interstate 95 corridor, with light rain forecast throughout northern and western New Jersey this afternoon.
Wednesday's temperatures are expected to be moderate throughout the state, ranging from the high 40s to the mid-50s.
The weather service stated, "One last mild day ahead before we plunge back into winter on Thursday."
As a cold front moves in, it will continue to rain into Wednesday night before progressively turning into snow or a rain-snow mixture as the temperature drops.
As the front moves offshore, the precipitation should stop by Thursday morning. The chilly air on Thursday will be accompanied by wind gusts of up to 30 to 35 mph.
Most of New Jersey will only see temperatures in the low to mid-30s on Thursday.
The daytime temperatures on Thursday will be between the upper teens and 20s.
By Friday morning, the temperature will be in the mid-teens to close to 20 degrees.
By Friday morning, much of New Jersey will have wind chills in the single digits.
With highs in the upper 20s to mid-30s and winds of 10 to 15 mph, Friday will stay chilly throughout the day with wind chills in the 20s. Keep up to date with the latest
forecast in your area.
