NJ Residents Left Powerless as High Winds Ravage the State
In addition to the toppled trees and power outages already affecting residents, gusts of up to 55 mph are predicted to whip over New Jersey on Monday, placing more than half of the Garden State under a wind advisory.
First Energy's
outage map shows that as of 9:30 a.m., more than 5,600 JCP&L households are without electricity. Sussex and Ocean counties experience the majority of the outages. Currently, hundreds of additional New Jerseyans who depend on PSE&G and Atlantic City Electric for power are in the dark.
The National Weather Service said that Monday's winds are a continuation of Sunday's strong gusts, which went as high as 66 mph close to Rutgers University and as high as 58 mph in places like Cape May. In contrast to Sunday's overcast sky, Monday is predicted to be bright with a high of around 52 degrees.
Tuesday in the Garden State is expected to see more winds, albeit weaker ones, with a maximum speed of 15 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The midday outlook is otherwise clear, with bright skies, a high of about 62 degrees, and dry conditions.
With highs in the mid-60s, the remainder of the week should be largely sunny before the chance of showers resumes on Friday.
