NJ Weather Alert: Potential Tornado and Hail from Severe Storms

According to the National Weather Service, a short-lived tornado and hail may occur on Monday evening as intense thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected to impact the Garden State, as indicated by the most recent forecast.

Following a warm day with temperatures in the 60s and 70s, a cold front will move in, bringing storms to New Jersey between 4 p.m. and midnight, according to forecasters from the National Weather Service. The primary concern associated with these storms is the potential for damaging wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph.
The National Weather Service stated in its Monday morning update that the primary severe weather concern will be locally damaging wind gusts; however, the possibility of an isolated tornado or two cannot be dismissed.

Additionally, the heavy rainfall associated with these storms poses a risk of flash flooding throughout the region, particularly in the urban corridor extending from Wilmington to the northeast through Philadelphia and Trenton.
Forecasters from the National Weather Service have predicted total rainfall amounts ranging from 1 to 2 inches, with the most significant accumulation expected along the I-95 corridor. Although a drought is currently in effect, there remains a risk of flash flooding due to the rapid onset of rain, which is anticipated to occur within a few hours.

The rain is expected to cease by Tuesday morning.

By Thursday and Friday, temperatures are projected to exceed normal levels, before returning to mild and near-normal conditions for the weekend.
