NJ Weather Alert: Two Fast-Moving Storms Bring Snowfall
Forecasters predict that New Jersey will have a brief overnight winter storm on Thursday night, followed by another system that is expected to bring more snow to the area this weekend.
The
National Weather Service predicts that Thursday's storm will start as sporadic rain and snow in the evening and continue through Friday with severe gusts reaching 40 mph. The agency stated that the storm's effects will be "limited," with half an inch of snow predicted for the Poconos and northwest New Jersey. The storm is predicted to subside by Saturday morning.
But fear not, snow lovers—multiple forecast models indicate that additional snowfall is imminent.
In a statement released on Thursday, the National Weather Service Mount Holly station stated that "after a brief lull later Friday, another low pressure likely brings accumulating snow to the region for Friday night."
The National Weather Service predicts widespread light precipitation from I-78 southward on Friday night, however it's uncertain how much snow will fall over the Garden State at this time. With Friday bringing the "potential for at least a low-end advisory event near and south of Philly metro, perhaps even a bit more than that," South Jersey might receive the snow accumulation it missed during Tuesday's storm.
Even while the quick snow event won't create a lot of snow, AccuWeather meteorologists warn that it could still cause travel delays throughout the weekend.
The storm on Friday is expected to drop one to three inches of snow in Philadelphia and Atlantic City; some snow may even make it as far north as New York City. However, storm conditions could still change the storm's path and the intensity of its effects in the Garden State.
