Storm Could Deliver Snow This Friday
As an Alberta clipper approaches the Atlantic coast this Friday evening, the most recent forecast calls for at least a light dusting of snow throughout nearly all of New Jersey.
According to
AccuWeather, the clipper might turn into a coastal storm, bringing with it icy conditions and slick roadways to the Garden State.
The intensity, duration, and quantity of snowfall from the mid-Atlantic coast and central Appalachians through New England will be negatively impacted by how quickly the energy from the clipper storm transitions to a developing coastal storm, according to Dan DePodwin, senior director of forecasting operations at AccuWeather.
Forecasters warn that flurries and snow could arrive at the coast from the clipper alone. Drivers need to be ready for slick roads.
"The other possibility is that the energy transfer occurs quickly, which will then lead to anything from a period of snow and a small accumulation to several inches of snow and significant travel disruptions," DePodwin stated.
"Heavy snow with strong winds and blowing and drifting snow associated with a nor'easter could unfold," AccuWeather cautioned, if the coastal storm intensifies quickly enough and remains offshore.
The National Weather Service stated that there is still uncertainty. In North Jersey's higher elevations, those forecasts anticipated 1 to 2 inches of snow, up to 3 inches locally, and minor accumulations of up to 1 inch elsewhere.
The region will continue to see cold weather during the weekend.
