Nor’Easter Causes Widespread Power Outages Across New Jersey
As one of the biggest snowstorms to hit New Jersey in 30 years began to criple the state with heavy snow and strong winds on Sunday evening, thousands of homes and businesses lost power.
14,359 outages were recorded by
JCP&L at 8:58 p.m., primarily in the coastal regions. As of 8:52 p.m.,
Atlantic City Electric reported that the storm had affected 4,847 customers.
According to officials earlier on Sunday, the Board of Public Utilities in New Jersey was working with utility providers to plan a prompt response to
anticipated power outages caused by heavy snow and strong winds.
A blizzard warning is still in effect for all 21 counties in New Jersey.
The Governor of New Jersey that 10-20 inches of snow are expected, with the heaviest snowfall from Sunday night into Monday morning, particularly along the coasts.
A mandatory travel restriction went into effect in New Jersey at 9:00 PM Sunday evening and lift at 7:00 AM on Monday, February 23.
"This is a very serious storm and I urge all residents to stay inside and stay safe," says Governor Sherrill.
Sherrill stated on Sunday morning that utility providers from other states have already responded to New Jersey and are ready to assist.
During outages, officials asked citizens to notify their utility companies of any disruptions and to periodically check in on their neighbors.
