Summer Zoo Camp Counselor

Actively Seeking Applicants

The Cape May County Zoo is seeking individuals with a passion for animals and education to fill the position of “Summer Zoo Camp Counselor”. Under supervision of the Education Staff these individuals will be responsible for our Summer Zoo Camp program which includes delivering engaging lessons and presentations, supervising campers at all times, leading and organizing lessons, games, arts and crafts, handling and presenting ambassador animals, engaging the public with educational presentations, and leading campers through the zoo while adhering to zoo protocol. 

Zoo Camp Counselors are an integral part of the Education Department.  We are looking for 7 summer team members to bring our camp’s energy to the next level.   

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Excellent public speaking and communication
  • Experience working with children is preferred.
  • Experience working with animals is preferred.
  • Ability to stand or remain standing for a 6-hour shift.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions. 
  • Preferably working toward, or have a bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Conservation Education, Wildlife Conservation, Wildlife Biology, Zoo Science, or related field.
  • Excellent creative thinking and originality. 
  • Excellent decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.

All applicants must pass a drug and background check with the county prior to employment.

This position pays $17 per hour, 32-34 hours per week Monday-Thursday (8:00am/8:30am – 4:30pm).  Fri/Sat/Sun OFF

This position is a SEASONAL/SUMMER ONLY position (June 1st – August 20th).
