Ocean County Forest Fire Successfully Contained

According to New Jersey Forest Fire Serviceat 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service reached 100% containment of a 189-acre wildfire in the area of Northern Blvd in Berkeley Twp, Ocean County.

The Fishers Pit Wildfire was first spotted from Cedar Bridge Fire Tower at 4:44 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9. When crews responded, the fire was burning inside an area known as Fisher’s Pit where initial attack efforts were unsuccessful due to erratic fire behavior.

Today fire crews continued to secure and reinforce containment lines by mopping up hot spots alongside the fire’s perimeter. Light smoke continues to impact the neighboring communities along the fire’s perimeter this afternoon.

FIRE CAUSE
⚠️ The Interagency Wildfire Investigation Taskforce has determined the cause of the fire to be an abandoned illegal campfire on Ocean County property.

Forest Fire Service staff will remain on scene and continue to monitor control lines and address areas of concern until significant precipitation occurs to ensure public safety. The public is advised that smoke may be visible for an extended period while firefighters work to mop-up the wildfire.

No structures were threatened by the fire. This is the final update for this incident.
