Ice Hockey Freshman Spotlight Players
To be able to enter the varsity game as a freshman and make an immediate impact takes some skill.
These players from Ocean County have done exactly that.
According to news reports there are 56 freshman who played hard this season and made an impact on their team. These kids are doing everything necessary to prove themselves worthy of playing at the varsity level.
Here are some of the freshmen who have stolen the show this season:
Brady Verdon, Toms River South-East
Verdon possesses a wealth of skill and intelligence, as evidenced by his play thus far this season. With 17 goals and 26 points, he leads TRSE. He made his presence known with a hat trick and four points in his first game.
Matt Butch, Toms River North
He ranks fourth on the team in scoring and scored in his varsity debut. On the season, he has four goals and seven assists.
Cole Sturman, Lacey-Barnegat
Sturman is a player who can provide offense whenever L-B requires it. The freshman already has 19 points, including a team-high 15 goals. He has five games with multiple goals and one in which he lit the lamp four times.
Brody Acropolis, Brick
He has transitioned smoothly to the varsity level. Acropolis has hit the back of the net 10 times and has 17 points overall, good for third on the team, while playing alongside a mix of veterans. He has the second most goals.
Kyle Maguire, Central Regional
Maguire has blended in well with the Central Regional lineup. He has eight goals and ten assists so far, but he has been on a roll recently. In January alone, he has seven goals and six assists.
