Ocean County Lake: Temporary Swimming Ban Due to Bacteria
Following the discovery of high levels of germs in test samples on Wednesday, authorities in Manchester announced that swimming has been stopped once more at Harry Wright Lake.
Citing the test results, the Manchester Township Recreation Department announced the closure on Thursday afternoon.
The
Ocean County Health Department examines the water once a week, and when the number of Escherichia coli bacteria in 100 milliliters of water above 104 colonies, the tests are repeated every day.
On July 25, swimming was also prohibited at the high beach.
Swimming prohibitions and advisories are issued for water samples above 104 colonies, and retesting is required if the excess is still present.
