Ocean County Man Charged with Driving While Intoxicated After Bridge Crash
According to Point Pleasant Police on Monday, a Brick Township man has been charged with driving under the influence after a collision on the Route 88 bridge on Sunday night that left one person hospitalized.
According to Capt. Christopher Leonhardt,
Daniel O'Neill, 30, was charged after the collision that occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
According to Leonhardt, two vehicles were involved in the collision, which occurred on the westbound lanes of the Route 88 bridge. According to Leonhardt, one vehicle, driven by O'Neill, overturned. He needed assistance getting out of the car with the passenger.
According to Leonhardt, a passenger in the second car was transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening medical attention.
Following the collision, Route 88 was blocked in both directions for a number of hours.
According to Leonhardt, O'Neill was arrested after Police Officer Robert Stowe found evidence of his alcohol impairment during the investigation. According to John's Law, he was processed at police headquarters and then released.
The investigation is still ongoing and more charges could be filed soon.
