According to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, an Ocean County man had been detained for allegedly killing his wife and abandoning her body on the side of a road in Ocean Township over the weekend.
Forked River resident Jeremy B. Cruz, 51, is accused of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Dawn C. Cruz, 51.
On Sunday, October 30, at around 1:30 a.m., a concerned driver saw a woman who looked to have suffered serious injuries at the intersection of Asbury and Colonial avenues in the Township of Ocean. Officers from the Ocean Township Police Department responded to the call and found the victim, Dawn Cruz, who was later declared dead at the scene.
Shortly after, Jeremy Cruz surrendered to police at the Berkeley Township Police Department's Ocean County headquarters. Cruz was arrested and charged following a collaborative investigation by the Berkeley Township Police Department, Ocean Township Police Department, Asbury Park Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, and Monmouth County Prosecutor. He is still being held until his initial court hearing and imprisonment.
