The Stafford Township Police Department received a call on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at approximately 8:15 PM, stating that a 2023 white GMC Sierra had not been returned to the Barlow GMC car dealership after a morning test drive. The customer was identified as Jason DeAngelo, 47, of Barnegat Township, New Jersey, who had taken the vehicle for a test drive at 11:00 a.m.
A short time later, the
Tuckerton Borough Police Department observed the vehicle on Rt. 539 and attempted to stop it. The vehicle did not come to a stop and continued south on the parkway. They abandoned their pursuit of the vehicle.
The Stafford Township Police Department's DEU received this information and was able to obtain intelligence that the vehicle and DeAngelo were in the Atlantic City area near the Tropicana Casino.
The DEU was able to locate the vehicle in the
Tropicana Casino's unoccupied parking garage. The DEU then contacted the Casino Operations Unit of the New Jersey State Police to assist in locating DeAngelo in the Tropicana Casino.
Through coordination with security at the Tropicana Casino, the DEU and the New Jersey State Police Casino Unit were able to locate DeAngelo in the Tropicana where he was arrested without incident. He was later transported to the Stafford Township Police Department for processing.
DeAngelo was charged with 3rd Degree Unlawful taking of Means of Conveyance in Stafford Township, and 2nd Degree Eluding out of Tuckerton Borough.
Angelo was later transported to Ocean County Jail where he was lodged on his charges, and pending a future appearance in Ocean County Superior Court.
